LSWFL Returning to Nutrien AG Carnival

No sooner had the sun set on the 2024 season and Boyup Brook, Deanmill and Tigers celebrated their respective Grand Final successes, work for both LSWFL Executives and the clubs started on an even bigger season 2025.

One of the key changes fans in the region will see in 2025, is the long awaited return to senior competition at the Nutrien AG Carnival, set down for July 10 – 13. All key stakeholders agree a return to representative football is a key pillar of showcasing the quality in the Lower South West and there is already a sense of excitement around the likelihood of seeing the competition’s leading players unite.

Looking back to season 2024, imagine a world where Matthew Thompson and David Cowan are sharing the goalkicking responsibility with Brett Wilson, Sam Garstone, Harry Taylor and co, while the likes of Jamie Marinoni, Jared Johnston and Zachary Hall team up. Imagine no more, as the best of the LSWFL will join together.

Venues are yet to be confirmed for the 2025 edition of the carnival, though previous competition has been based around the Perth metro area with teams travelling from all corners off the state. Divisions are also yet to be confirmed, though it is likely the Lower South West will find itself in Division 3, looking to replicate the success of last year’s winners, Great Southern who won the decider by 27 points over Esperance. Also featuring in Division 3 in 2025 were the likes of Hills, North Midlands, Central Wheatbelt and the South West’s Onshore Cup, so a wide and varied style of opponent is sure to come.

For now, focus remains on putting the building blocks in place for the league to have a successful carnival, representing the Lower South West. Calls are currently going out via clubs for support personnel to assist both in the lead up to the 4 day carnival, as well as at the carnival itself.

The competition has experienced success at the carnival in past years, with Division 2 titles in 1970, 1978, 2009 and 2015 to go with Division 3 successes in 1984, 1985, 1987 and 2008.
